A free Wave alternative
Since June 2024, Wave's free plan no longer includes automatic bank connections, receipt scanning, more than one user or late-payment reminders; those need Pro at $19 a month. BuckLoad includes the ones it has at no cost.
Free in BuckLoad, paid (or missing) in Wave
- Extra people: your staff and your accountant, free. Wave's free plan has one user.
- Automatic reminders when an invoice is past due, plus "viewed" tracking, signatures, repeating invoices and a Pay button through your own Stripe account.
- Receipt photo reading on your phone, free. Wave sells receipt scanning separately.
- Mileage log and 1099 contractor totals, which Wave doesn't have.
- Stock counts, a cash drawer count and profit on every sale, for businesses that sell in person, with Square card reader sales coming in by themselves.
What Wave does that BuckLoad doesn't
Wave is real double-entry accounting, Wave Pro connects to your bank automatically, and Wave sells payroll and bookkeeping help. BuckLoad doesn't have bank connections or payroll yet; you import your bank's statement file instead. Both let your customers pay invoices online by card or bank transfer; in BuckLoad that goes through your own Stripe account.
How to move over
- Make your free account and pick My business.
- Add your products or services and your payment methods.
- Import this year's expenses from your bank's statement file (CSV) under Expenses.
- Add your customers and send your next invoice from BuckLoad.
Questions
See everything side by side on the comparison page.
Is BuckLoad free like Wave used to be?
Yes, and the features it has are all included: extra users, reminders, receipt reading and mileage. There's no paid plan.
Does BuckLoad connect to my bank?
Not automatically. You download a CSV file from your bank's website and import it; BuckLoad sorts it and skips what's already there.
Can customers pay BuckLoad invoices online?
Yes. Connect your own Stripe account and your invoices get a Pay button for card or bank transfer. The money goes straight to you, BuckLoad takes no cut, and the invoice marks itself paid.
