A free Mint alternative

Mint closed for good on March 23, 2024, and moved people to Credit Karma, which isn't a budget. BuckLoad is a free, ad-free budget for your own money, with no bank password to hand over.

What you get

The honest difference

Mint pulled in your transactions automatically. BuckLoad doesn't connect to your bank: you add spending as you go, or download a CSV file from your bank's website and import it, which takes a minute. In return, nobody gets your bank login, nothing breaks when a bank changes its website, and there are no ads or credit card offers. Paid apps like Monarch and YNAB do connect to banks, for about $100 a year.

Getting started

  1. Make your free account and pick My personal money.
  2. Add your paycheck and set it to repeat.
  3. Add your bills, then pick a budget template or set your own limits.
  4. Import last month from your bank's CSV file to see where it went.

Questions

What happened to Mint?

Intuit announced in November 2023 that Mint would close, and it shut down on March 23, 2024. Users were pointed to Credit Karma, which focuses on credit scores rather than budgeting.

Is BuckLoad really free?

Yes. No ads, no card, no trial. If prices ever change, you'll get an email at least 30 days ahead and can download everything.

Can I import my old Mint data?

Yes. Import the CSV file Mint gave you like a bank file; BuckLoad reads its debit and credit column. You see every row before anything is added, so you can check it first.

Is there a phone app?

It works in any phone browser, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app.
